Our financial education sessions focus on themes relevant to students at their current age and align with the Martin Lewis Your Money Matters book, the first financial education textbook.

Themes will include:

  • My future finances
  • Staying safe from scams
  • Moving on from school
  • Understanding risk

New for 2021:

  • Loans & Mortgages
  • Opening your first bank account
  • Understanding credit, debit and debt

New personal finance talks for 2021:

  • Identity theft and scams
  • Personal finance basics
  • Moving on from school (post-16 options and money)

The programme also includes the popular and interactive Discover Fortunes event:

  • Short introduction of the volunteer and their career path.
  • A board game competition played in teams of 5-6 students and based around 5 client portfolios where students assess a client’s risk profile before agreeing on an individual’s financial planning options that are grouped into 4 categories (protection, pensions, savings and investments).
  • Students work collaboratively in teams to plan the clients’ wealth portfolios.
  • Through the course of the session, we are able to expand on what protection, pensions, savings and investments are.
  • Creates framework for future follow-up session on financial education.
